Hi, I’m Jacky.

I’m a freelance journalist who works in the intersection of media and development. I typically report on entrepreneurship, social issues and global development for publications including the CBC, National Post, The Christian Science Monitor, The East African and many more. I’ve previously worked as a TV reporter in Kenya for Nation Media and as a media trainer in Ghana for Journalists for Human Rights.

I’m the founder of New Lens Travel, a social enterprise that challenges misconceptions of Africa by highlighting the continent’s top storytellers and giving travellers a chance to learn and collaborate with them.

I’m a 2016-2017 Fellow of the Aga Khan Foundation Canada and a 2015 Fellow of the School for Social Entrepreneurs- Canada. I hold a Bachelors of Journalism, Honours and a certificate in Nonprofit Management, both from Ryerson University in Canada.

In my spare time, I make unsolicited music recommendations and eat chocolate (you’d be amazed at just how much).

I’ve worked with the following organizations:
